WebFolk Bulgaria : an large searchable multimedia database of Bulgarian folklore, including song lyrics, musical scores, audio and video. In English and Bulgarian. Project director: Lubomir Kavaldjiev.
Song of the Crooked Dance: utterly beautiful site with info about the early Bulgarian recording industry and images of old Bulgarian 78 labels. In Bulgarian and English (under construction).
Tale Ognenovski: fun site containing lots of info about the famous Macedonian clarinetist, including lots of images and a discography.
Eliznik Romania Pages: lots of info on Romanian music, dance and ethnography. Also has section on Bulgaria.
Folkloretanznoten: impressive collection of international dance music notation PDFs, mostly transcribed by Martin Junghans and nicely typeset.
Balkan Tunes: this site, maintained by Bill Cope, has a nice selection of transcriptions, conveniently matched with mp3 audio files.
Kaba Gaidi: a collection of audio files of Rhodope gaida music from Bulgaria. In mp3 and wav formats. Curated by Boyan Dobrev.
Sevdalinke: extensive site on Bosnian traditional lyric song. Includes many song texts and audio files, as well as background info on the culture, songs, performers and literature. In Bosnian and English, mostly the former.
Bulgarian Kaval: Alex Eppler's site contains a small, but growing, collection of Bulgarian music transcriptions from his "concert and pedagogical repetoire".
Tamburitza 78s: lots of info on old style Tamburitza music from Europe and America, including audio files and pictures of album labels. Maintained by Steven Kozobarich.
Irish Traditional Music Index: totally awesome site by Alan Ng including a searchable discography and transcription fragments.
Folk Dance Federation of California: contains a searchable list of folk-dances and associated recordings.
The Dick Crum Collection at UCLA: a finding aid to the (still largely uncatalogued) collection of Balkan dance pioneer Dick Crum's records now in the UCLA library. His books, by contrast, ended up at the University of Washington. Anyone know if there is a comparable link for that collection?
Harmony in Bulgarian Music: doctoral dissertation by Bulgarian strings player K. Kirilov. A goldmine of information, but very technical.
International Folk-dance Teacher Bios: Biographical sketches for several hundred IFD teachers, maintained by Dick Oakes.
